2021 Genesis G80 Sport Previewed Before Q3 Unveiling

This is our first look at the 2021 Genesis G80 Sport with a slightly more dynamic design than the standard model.

Ever since the latest-generation G80 was unveiled, there has been speculation that Genesis would launch a Sport variant, as that’s exactly what it did with the previous G80. While technical specifications about the new model haven’t been announced, these images showcase a number of unique features.

Found at the front of the G80 Sport is a grille finished in dark glossy chrome and a revised front bumper that is sharper and more aggressive than lesser G80s. The dark glossy chrome finish continues across the sides of the luxury sedan. A unique set of 20-inch alloy wheels are also featured as are brake calipers available in black and red.

Alterations are less apparent at the rear but do include dark glossy chrome on the tailgate. There’s also a new bumper and a subtle diffuser. Buyers of the G80 Sport will be able to order it in an exclusive color dubbed Cavendish Red, named after a Cliffside on the north coast of Prince Edward Island in Canada.

The interior of the 2021 G80 Sport comes standard with a three-spoke steering wheel and unique dashboard garnish available with an aluminum, carbon fiber, and a diamond-patterned hybrid weaving pattern finish. Genesis will also offer new seat quilting designs exclusive for the G80 Sport. Three exclusive color options are available for the cabin, including black monotone with gray or red stitching, and Sevilla red.

Genesis hasn’t announced what other changes the G80 Sport has undergone but does note it will come with rear-wheel steering.

“The Genesis G80 Sport delivers the best value to customers who want to enjoy the perfect balance of ‘Athletic Elegance’ from the G80 combined with a more dynamic driving experience,” Genesis described in a statement. “Detailed specifications will be released when the vehicle is launched in the third quarter of 2021.”

Genesis Wants To Know If You’d Put Down $1,000 Deposit On A Production X Coupe EV

Asking on Twitter whether or not people would put down a $1,000 deposit on the Genesis X, it seems that the public’s reaction to the concept has been strong enough to lead Genesis USA to wonder if they should put it into production.

The all-electric coupe was intended as a concept only when it was unveiled on March 30. At the time, a Genesis spokesperson told us: “For now, this is purely a design statement.”

They did however leave the door open for more, adding: “I would tell you to let your imagination run wild; Genesis is a young brand with a growing product lineup and potential for many more exciting model lines.”

Indeed, public reaction to the Genesis X has been very positive. I called it strikingly handsome and our own Brad Anderson called it gorgeous. Our commenters were fans of the design, too.

“Absolutely gorgeous,” wrote commenter gich, while HURACAN wrote, “Genesis is on a role.” Marshall, another reader, wrote “Just a reminder of how a concept should look.” Indeed, the brand will hope that commenter PK was right when he wrote “If this concept truly makes it way to a production[sic]. Genesis will have a bright future ahead of them!!!!”

Although many design details have been revealed, no drivetrain details were confirmed. We can assume, though, that a production version would be based on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform which is targeting 310 miles of range and up to 600 hp, according to the automaker.

Genesis’ use of the #JustAsking hashtag suggests that this is far from a sure thing, but it is at least encouraging to see that the public is excited enough by a two-door coupe to make an automaker seriously think about pouring the resources into making one.

Genesis Officially Teases All-New GV70

Yesterday we spotted a GV70 vehicle with a promotional vinyl wrap and QR codes and today the brand new Genesis GV70 SUV is revealed publicly in South Korea. The camouflaged vehicle shown in the accompanying teaser photos previews the brand’s second SUV, a dynamic midsize suv that joins the GV80 in a rapidly expanding model lineup.

The camouflaged GV70 will be tested on public roads in Korea for one month, beginning today. Observers who are fortunate to catch it in the wild can scan a QR code on the vehicle’s wrap to learn more about the camouflage pattern and G-matrix.

“We are thrilled to share this early sneak preview of our second SUV, the Genesis GV70,” said Genesis official. “It telegraphs an exciting new design and reinforces the core brand values that run through our lineup. We look forward to sharing full details on GV70 with everyone in the near future.”

While specific details are presently hidden by the bespoke G-Matrix camouflage pattern, the continued evolution of Genesis’ signature “Athletic Elegance” design language is noticeable.

G-Matrix is inspired by the diffused reflection of light from precision cut diamonds and is a core part of the Genesis brand identity. Drivers can look forward to the creative application of the pattern on the GV70 in different ways, emphasizing the details that are emblematic of the Genesis brand.

2020 Genesis G70 RWD 2.0T Sport Manual Transmission Review & Test Drive

2020 genesis g70 sport manual The Genesis brand is finding a respected groove in the automotive luxury landscape that some are taking notice mostly due to the lower price point for vehicles that seem to offer the expected luxury fundamentals. Moving to a smaller formula, Genesis brings us the G70, which also comes in a manual transmission flavor, which is a rarity in any segment, let alone the luxury automotive market. The Genesis G70 has been one of my favorites for small luxury sedans and, at times, putting a smile on my face more so than the current BMW 3 Series with a similar setup. While my drive in the 2019 Genesis G70 RWD 3.3T last year was enjoyable, having the 2020 G70 with the smaller turbocharged 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission is an interesting take. The familiar driving dynamics in its handling and ride quality are well intact, but the smaller engine matched with what feels like unengaging 6-speed manual transmission seems not to work well together.See Also: 2019 Genesis RWD G70 3.3T Sport Review & Test Drive2020 genesis g70 sport manual sideLet’s face it, the manual transmission is a dying thing, and people like me have traditionally balked at the idea of killing off the manual transmission. However, with what today’s advanced technology has afforded us, enthusiasts like myself are starting to slowly adapt to the idea of piloting enthusiastic vehicles with automatic and automated dual-clutch transmissions. The 6-speed manual transmission that Genesis equips in the G70 is good on paper, and the turbocharged 4-cylinder engine looks to be a decent powerplant in the scheme of having a healthy 252 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque sent to the rear wheels.2020 genesis g70 sport manual backWhen out on the road driving the new G70 2.0T Sport Manual Transmission, things don’t feel as seamless as they should. Rowing through the 6-speed manual transmission’s gears are somewhat of a mixed bag even when you make a required extra effort to shift smoothly things don’t mesh well. What I am getting to is the power from the turbocharged engine don’t do the manual gearing ratios any justice as at times it feels that the power band of the turbocharged 4-cylinder has dropped out leaving you with lagging power. If you keep things near redline and shift, it gets better but only marginally. It’s not to say the G70 Sport Manual is a slouch, it just doesn’t live up to what I expect in a luxury sports sedan – with a manual transmission as a 2020 model year vehicle. Overall, the G70 Sport Manual feels good for tossing it around due to the slightly lighter curb weight than its more-powerful G70 3.3T sibling. I can say, I do miss the G70 3.3T Sport after driving the 2.0T Sport Manual trim, that robust initial power is missing. Too bad Genesis doesn’t pair the manual with the more-powerful 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, which I had fun in my last review of the G70.2020 genesis g70 sport manual front dashboardAs far as equipment goes, the G70 hasn’t changed from its introduction as a 2019 model other than the Sport Manual now getting the better brakes featuring Brembo 4-piston calipers up front just like its beefier G70 3.3T counterpart. A rear limited-slip differential also remains if you ever decide to drive the wheels off of the G70 Sport Manual, which is an engaging experience because you really have to push it to the limits to get the rear wheels to spin. The interior remains the same featuring much of what I liked in my 2019 Genesis G70 3.3T review from last year minus a few options, such as a power-sliding sunroof, quilted leather trimmed seats, color heads-up display, and a wireless phone charger. Otherwise, my G70 Sport Manual test vehicle gets many desirable features, such as heated and ventilated front seats leather seats up front, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, the favorable easy-to-use Genesis infotainment system fed through a high-mounted 8-inch color touchscreen, and a plethora of active safety features minus adaptive cruise control.2020 genesis g70 sport manual back seatsThe pricing for the Genesis G70 2.0T with the 8-speed automatic transmission starts at just $35,460. Oddly enough, opting for the 6-speed manual transmission will add about $3,000 to the price, which gets you a slightly slower acceleration time and worst fuel consumption than the automatic at 18 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. The G70 2.0T automatic transmission gets 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. There’s a price to pay for having a manual transmission in more ways than one, as much as $39,000 for my test vehicle as it sits. The G70 Sport Manual also takes about 6.5 seconds to hit 60 mph. Will the manual transmission win over enthusiasts in the G70? Maybe on paper, but after driving it I’m not one to recommend such a setup. Give me the G70 3.3T Sport automatic any day, I’ll pay the extra $6,000.2020 genesis g70 sport manual2020 genesis g70 sport manual side2020 genesis g70 sport manual back2020 genesis g70 sport manual brembo brakes

2021 Genesis G80 First Review Finds It Has No Inferiority Complex Against German Rivals

The all-new 2021 Genesis G80 is one of the brand’s most anticipated models and everyone wants to know how good the executive sedan is compared to its well-established German rivals.

While it’s too early for a comparative review between the G80 and the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, today we bring you a detailed first review of the new Korean model courtesy of Asian Petrolhead.

The video features the Korean-specification Genesis G80 powered by the 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine rated at 304 PS (300 HP) at 5,800 rpm and 311 lb-ft (421 Nm) of torque at 1,650 – 4,000 rpm. The fact that this engine is also offered in North America as the entry-level choice makes the review relevant for U.S. viewers too.

In Korea, the G80 also offers a 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel delivering 210 PS (207 HP) and a 380 PS (375 HP) turbocharged 3.5 T-GDi turbocharged V6 petrol – the latter available in North America as well.

While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, we will say that the 2021 Genesis G80 is a massive departure from its predecessor as far as the styling is concerned. This also applies for the interior which not only looks way more modern but also feels more upscale than before thanks to the better quality materials and more tasteful trimmings.

As far as driving impressions go, we won’t spoil the video too much for you. We will say that the car feels very smooth and comfortable to drive, as well as reasonably quick for its segment. It handles nicely too but you’ll need to check out the video for details.
